Joel was born in Matteson, Illinois in 1978. If you want to argue with Joel, just try to pronounce Matteson incorrectly (2 syllables instead of 3). In 1993 Joel moved to Shorewood and graduated from Minooka High school in 1997. After High School, Joel attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. After two years of majoring in Zoology and Spanish, Joel found himself in his own trouble with the law. After his own experience with the criminal justice system, he vowed that he was going to help others in the way that an attorney helped him. Joel changed his major to the Administration of Justice and received his B.A. with minors in Zoology and Spanish. In 2004 Joel then earned his Juris Doctorate at the Southern Illinois University School of Law. While in law school, Joel travelled across the country excelling in Moot Court Competitions and continues to serve as a judge of National Moot Court at the University.

After graduation, Joel began his legal career at the established Joliet law firm of Tracy, Johnson & Wilson. In addition to representing large corporations including car dealerships and construction companies, Joel was also the prosecutor for the Village of Romeoville, getting the experience of hundreds of trials. Joel then went on to work for the criminal defense firm of Chuck Bretz & Associates, P.C. from 2007 to 2014. After a 2nd place finish in a World Series of Poker Circuit Event, Joel used his winnings to open up his own law firm in 2014 specializing in Criminal Defense.

Joel’s personality and passion for helping others has helped him successfully build a business based on reputation. So much of Joel’s business comes from the referrals of his satisfied clients and word of mouth. Joel doesn’t send out mailer advertisements. After a consultation, you will see why so many people hire Joel after consulting with numerous other attorneys.

Joel is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Will County Bar Association, and American Association of Premiere DUI Attorneys. Joel has been and continues to be a speaker at seminars for continuing legal education.

In 2018, Joel became a father. He is a dedicated family man and loves spending time with his wife and two children. Joel is very passionate about his hobbies, including hunting for bourbon and barrel aged beers. Joel is an avid poker player and golfer. He loves to travel, listen to music, and attend live concerts, but these days he spends most of his time with his greatest love, his family.
